Last night the last gala show of the festival featured the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía with their most recent work, «Aquel Silverio», under the artistic direction of Rafael Estévez.

An abridged version, reduced by a half hour and adapted to the technical conditions of the stage of the Catedral del Cante that included difficult access and columns on stage.  A work from the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco that included collaboration in the present edition of this festival.

The complete show debuted at this year’s Festival de Jerez, when we ran a review of this same work with the headline “Back to the Future with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía”.

Eleven dancers on stage, and at certain moments the director appears, Valeriano Paños, in charge of choreography and stage direction, in addition to being co-creator of the original idea for the show.  Accompanying the corps de ballet, the guitars of Pau Vallet and Jesús Guerrero, and singers Sebastián Cruz, José Luis García “Cheito” and José Luis Pérez Vela.

The show “Aquel Silverio” takes its name from the García Lorca poem “Retrato de Silverio Franconetti”, a character the director considers to be the father of flamenco.

The work consists of three movements.  In the first, the group interpreted jaleos, panaderos, alegrías, polos, rondeñas, jaberas, cañas, serrana, soleares apolás, petenera and cantiñas. In the second movement the group interpreted seguiriyas, zapateado, tanguillo, sevillana and guaracha.  The third and last movement included siguiriyas cabales of Silverio and martinetes.
