Sip by sip, the “sorbitos” of the title, Manuela Carrasco offers her dancing in this show where she surrounds herself with an excellent group and features an abundance of good singing.
Manuela opens with taranto using a large shawl. It’s a simple piece, but she gives it a lot of substance and her movements are full of class.
The two women singers, Tobala and Samara Carrasco, stand alonside guitarist Pedro Sierra to sing tangos. Samara, Manuela’s daughter, has a very flamenco voice which lends great depth to the tangos.Tobala, with a sweeter voice, also sounds very flamenco in her way.
El Torombo dances alegrías.His style is impulsive, unbridled and extremely personal.
Enrique el Extremeño who’s been with Manuela for years, sings trillas with his customary high level.
It all takes place in that racial style Carrasco always imposes. When Manuel Molina appears, the air becomes thick with art, his bulerías surge forth with tremendous sensitivity.Manuela Carrasco dialogues with her dance and it all comes together as a great entity, Manuel’s singing and Manuela’s dancing. That little sip of the sublime.
Once again the singers take center stage. Tobala interprets malagueñas displaying range and coloring, especially in the abandolao ending which is rich in shading. Samara sings and dances bulerías transmitting what she inherited from her mother: strength and command.
The soleá is the “sip” of flamenco Manuela Carrasco leaves for the end. The dancer throws every ounce of energy into it, supported by the group who are with her every step of the way. Dressed in a torero jacket, she comes in for the kill. With her stylized arm movements, her distinguished poses, her raging feet, she achieves moments of extraordinay quality.
