Photo Gallery: Paco Manzano CELIA ROMERO, WINNER OF THE LÁMPARA MINERA OF THE FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DEL CANTE DE LAS MINAS 2011 At ten minutes past three in the morning, Badajoz singer Celia Romero, 16 years old, was announced winner of the 2011 Lámpara Minera of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas de la Unión. The singer, originally from Herrera del Duque in the province of Badajoz, managed to win the coveted prize in a hotly contested final in which 13 artists participated, between 8 singers, 2 dancers, 2 guitarists and one instrumentalist. Celia Romero won the Lámpara Minera with a cash prize of 15,000 euros, and the first prize in mineras, with 6,000 euros as well as the first prize for tarantas for an additional 4,500 euros. The second prize for mineras went to Seville singer Evaristo Cuevas along with 4,500 euros. Dancer Lucía Álvarez “La Piñoña” won the Desplante award for dance, a prize that brings 10,000 euros, while American dancer Lakshimi Basile “La Chimi” took second place for 6,000 euros. Granada guitarist Juan Torres Fajardo, “Habichuela Nieto”, 22 years old, won the Bordón Minero for 6,000 euros. Juan Torres, grandson of the legendary Juan Carmona Habichuela, devoted some notes of his taranta to the memory of the late Enrique Morente to remind the audience of verses so often sung by him. But that wasn’t the only tribute. “Habichuela Nieto” appeared on stage with a vest that bore the image of the Granada singer. Alberto López Martínez won second prize in guitar with a prize of 4,000 euros. The first prize for flamenco instrumentalist, with 7,000 euros, went to pianist Sergio Monroy from San Fernando. Ana Mochón won the prize for cartegeneras, Antonio José Nieto won in malagueñas, Beatriz Romero González won for cantes of Málaga, Granada Córdoba and Huelva, and in the category of cantes “bajo andaluces”, the siguiriyas prize went to Rafael Usero “Rafael de Utrera”, solea to María Rosa Navarro “La Divi” and bulerías to Antonio Flores Cortés “Rubio de Pruna”. When the winners were announced, the new holder of the Lámpara Minera, Celia Romero, was very surprised to have won the highest award, and commented that she had felt “very comfortable on stage with the accompaniment of Antonio Muñoz from La Unión, who knows these cantes very well”, and she announced “I’m going to celebrate the prize with my family who are here tonight, and I’m also going to celebrate at my town’s fair when I get back”. click para ampliar las fotos
