Without a doubt Son de la Frontera is the great revelation of
the year. They debuted two years ago at the Festival Flamenco Pa’Tos
and now returned to the stage of the Colegio de Médicos,
opening the last day of this sixth edition. The group has done well
since then. After they put out their first record many people were
taken aback by the surprising music based on Morón de la
Frontera and Diego del Gastor. They’ve created a suggestive
style which mixes guitar, the Cuban tres, dance, cante and palmas.

They interpreted soleá, alegrías, tangos… Beautiful,
fresh melodies that exhibited great musical talent and clarity of
vision. Raúl Rodríguez gets a lovely sound from the
Cuban tres and Paco de Amparo on guitar is the perfect musical match.
The voz of singer Moi de Morón comes in at just the right
moment with light touches of cante. Pepe Torres’ dancing adds
a spectacular touch and the palmas of the singer and dancer along
with those of Manuel Flores are the element of percussion that colors
everything.
In the second part Tana, the regular member of Paco de Lucía’s
group on his most recent tour who decided to strike out on her own
with a first record “Tú ven a mí”, sang
a number of songs from the recording. The tangos “La Bombonera”,
bulerías “Enamórame”, and the title song
made up the core of her performance. In several of the numbers she
exhibited tremendous power, pushing her voice to the physical limits
and exhibiting self-confidence throughout her entire performance.
Bulerías with a little dance won the audience over if anyone
still had their doubts.

Dancer Güito closed out the evening with his dance por soleá,
as always, sober, elegant, traditional. Always remembered as the
dean of flamenco dance, he got the audience to their feet. The members
of the company dance seguiriya and alegrías, but there wasn’t
time for much else as the concert had gone on until one in the morning,
and thus ended this sixth edition of the Festival Flamenco Pa’Tos
wihch has turned into an obligatory, and much-awaited event.
