Special Report 54th Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas
Estrella Morente, honored at the present edition of La Union's big event, was the star of the fifth and last flamenco gala of the 54th edition of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas with a cante recital and an adaptation of Amor Brujo of Manuel de Falla along with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Universidad Católica San Antonio of Murcia.
In the first part of the show, accompanied on guitar by José Carbonell «Montoyita», with the chorus and percussion of Antonio Carbonell, Victoria Carbonell and Ángel Gabarre, she sang a pregón dedicated to La Unión, fandangos del Albaycín, caña, tarantas, seguirilla and bulería, including the taranta of «La Antequerana» and a fragment of «El pequeño reloj», which her father Enrique Morente interpreted so well.
In the second part the artist offered «Amor Brujo» of Manuel de Falla in the purest and most passionate interpretation with the harmonic and orchestral arrangement of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Universidad Católica directed by Emilio Fennoy.
Last January Estrella Morente was named director of the Cátedra Internacional de Flamencología of the Cante de las Minas Foundation and the Catholic University of San Antonio. The following day, the singer received the highest award of the Festival Internacional de las Minas, the «Castillete de Oro», and in the afternoon, along with Arcángel, lent her singing to bullfighter husband Javier Conde in the show «Tauromaquia Flamenca».
