Córdoba’s National Flamenco Contest, created in 1956 and held every three years, has the objective of preserving the traditional cante that is far-removed from professional circuits, and the desire, at the same time, to honor the 1922 Granada contest organized by Manuel de Falla and Federico García Lorca. The event is scheduled in May, coinciding with the traditional Festival de los Patios.
Last November, 2006, preparations got under way for the 18th Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco de Córdoba.The organization set about establishing the rules, naming the panel of judges, putting together the program and other aspects related to the management of the contest.
After successive meetings, the organizing committee has put together the following program:
