On February
9th in Valencia, at the Palau de la Música, the eleventh edition
of the Festival Flamenco de Valencia is scheduled to get under way.
The varied program includes a good assortment of voices including Catalonian Duquende,
Granada singer Estrella
Morente and the popular Martirio
from Seville, a singer who mixes Spanish lyrical song, bolero and jazz
with flamenco. Dance will be represented by another Granada artist, Manolete,
one of flamenco’s most revered veterans who continues to be relevant
thanks to his elegant sober style.
Duquende is going to present “Mi Forma de Vivir”, he most
recent recording, and pianist Chano
Domínguez is bringing his “New Flamenco Sound”
to satisfy the flamenco fusion audience. Estrella Morente is also presenting
her new record “Mujeres”, and concert flamenco guitar will
be represented by Cañizares.
Oscar de Manuel, originally from Cádiz but who lives in Valencia,
will present “Llágrimes de Sal”, a symphonic flamenco
program in honor of the America’s Cup which the composer himself
describes as “a very ambitious show whose objective is to bring
together a symphony orchestra, flamenco dancers and even a soprano on
the same stage…we get about seventy people all at once to give life
to a work which is pure emotion”.
According to the organization, one of the objectives is to encourage
interest in flamenco in the Valencia autonous community, a part of Spain
which already gave us one of the great classic singers, Juan
Varea, from Burriana, Castellón.
