José Mercé, Carmen Linares, Javier Barón, Gerardo Núñez are among the major stars featured

•Nuevo Ballet Español will present a world premiere
•Arcángel and Antonio Carmona will share the stage with outstanding performers from other countries
•Cinema, courses, photography and a cante contest are included

The eighth edition of Madrid’s Suma Flamenca Festival has been presented.  Big stars and young hopefuls with fill the stages of Madrid with flamenco.  From June 3rd to 30th 48 shows are scheduled in 19 venues throughout the region.

The capital city of Madrid will receive 15 of the shows, and the rest are distributed between Alcalá de Henares, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Móstoles and La Cabrera, while there will also be a film series and a contest of flamenco singing.

The theater La Abadía will host the Carbonell Family, the music of Jorge Pardo, the guitar-playing of Gerardo Núñez, the dancing of Carmen Cortés and the singing of Paco del Pozo and Montse Cortés.  The same stage will host encounters between writers, singers and actors.

From June 11th to 15th the Teatros del Canal will feature the recitals of José Mercé and Carmen Linares, while Arcángel will present a production of the Dutch Bienal.  Antonio Carmona, Javier Barón, Esperanza Fernández and Manolo Franco are also on the program. 

Other artists who will be seen on the same stage are dancers Alfonso Losa, Nino de los Reyes and Jesús Carmona.  The Nuevo Ballet Español of Angel Rojas and Carlos Rodriguez will premiere their new show, and the Antonio Gades Foundation will offer courses for teachers.  La Moneta, José Luis Ortiz Nuevo and Paco del Pozo with Blanca del Rey are also scheduled.

Young flamenco artists and veterans will grace the stages of four venues that have joined the circuit this year to offer flamenco singing, dancing and guitar-playing, in addition to a series of film projections about Enrique Morente, Paco de Lucía and Miguel Poveda.

The second contest for young singers will take place on June 23rd, and is being included in Suma Flamenca for the first time.  Dancers Manuel Liñán and Lidón Patiño are programmed on June 22nd and June 8th respectively.

This year six tablaos will be open daily to receive Suma Flamenca: Corral de la Morería with its program Noches Brujas del Corral de la Morería, as well as Casa Patas, Las Carboneras, Café de Chinitas, Las Tablas and Torres Bermejas.

The Cardamomo night-club will present a special program during Suma Flamenca which includes children’s performances on Saturday afternoons.
