In the collective memory there lingers that image of the man who danced
to the recorded voice of his professional companion, the queen of bulerías,
at Seville’s Teatro de la Maestranza, a moment that was charged
with emotion and made flamenco history.
Now Manuel Fernández Molina, “Parrilla de Jerez”,
guitarist, patriarch of the Parrilla dynasty, is to be honored at an extraordinary
tribute Saturday, June 11th, 2005 in the Jerez de la Frontera bullring.

Brother of the late dancer Ana Parrilla and of guitarist Juan Parrilla,
son of the legendary Tío Parrilla, nephew of Borrico and Serna
and grandson of Juanichi el Manijero, since last November Manuel has been
fighting a cruel illness which has kept him from practicing his profession.
The guitarist who spent twenty-five years accompanying la Paquera, who
also left us last year, will receive an outpouring of support from more
than forty top-flight artists, a bill with scant precedent in the history
of flamenco. In an event rivaling the Fiesta de la Bulería, performers
such as José Mercé, Moraíto, Paco Cepero, Lebrijano,
Tomatito, Rancapino, Capullo and Niña Pastori, among many others,
including numerous local artists will pay tribute to one of the most admired
guitarists ever to come out of Jerez.
