The theaters are being readied, the artists are putting the final touches on their work, people coming from out-of-town are packing their bags and Jerez is getting all decked out once again to stage the world’s most important festival of flamenco dance.
On Friday, February 22nd, the great festival machine of Jerez in its twelfth edition gets underway, offering some 44 shows in 16 days that also include a wealth of presentations, conferences, exhibitions and courses. In addition to the legendary Villamarta Theater where the big shows will be presented, the Sala La Compañía will receive young artists within the series titled “Los Novísimos”, the intimate salon of the Palacio de Villavicencio will be the venue for acoustic recitals of cante and guitar and the Bodega de Los Apóstoles will welcome a diversity of performances by groups such as Son de la Frontera and Capullo de Jerez among many others. Jerez de la Frontera is poised to become the center of attention for the world’s flamenco fans with the inaugural show “¡Viva Jerez!” featuring dancers María del Mar Moreno and Mercedes Ruiz, singer Fernando Terremoto and guitarist Paco Cepero, with special guest artist Angelita Gómez and the artistic direction of Javier Latorre and Francisco López.
