Tuesday,
July 5th. BARCELONA. Festival BCN Grec 10:00pm
Thursday and Friday. MADRID. Teatro Español.
8:30PM
From a theatrical point of view, presentation, reworking and interpretation
of famous songs, a friendly give-and-take between these two performers
where, from the most humorous material, to the most dramatic, from flamenco
to blues, there’s a personal and joint remembrance of those men
and women who created the genre and are our cultural references, our memory.
They taught us to appreciate and feel this musical treasure we all share,
love and respect.
Authors such as Quintero, León, Quiroga, Valverde, Mostazo, Gordillo,
Sarmiento, Valerio and Solano, and the performers who made their compositions
famous are remembered by Miguel and Martirio who adapt the work to their
own background in flamenco.
MARTIRIO & MIGUEL POVEDA.
Two visions of the same heritages
“We invite you on this sentimental journey through the most
beautiful musical landscapes of Spanish song. With the fine flavor of
composers and singers who make up a large part of our emotional education,
we offer this tribute which is a daring but affectionate experience for
everyone. For this undertaking, we put our heart and soul, our energy,
everything we know and everything we hope to learn: Spanish song for the
twenty-first century.”
Martirio and Miguel met as a result of mutual admiration for each other’s
work and perspective. And the common point of reference is, without a
doubt, the love both singers feel for this classic genre of Spanish twentieth-century
music. As a result, each time they’ve seen each other, they’ve
felt the urge to celebrate with song, each one in their own way.
The musical backup is provided by the guitar of Raúl Rodríguez,
the piano of Jesús Lavilla (two first-rate musicians who made new
arrangements for these classics), the excellent guitar of Chicuelo, the
violín of Olvido Lanza, the flamenco and ethnic percussion of Antonio
Coronel and the classy double-bass of Jordi Gaspar who envelop the couple
and their guests in the magical veil of sensitivity, tenderness, bittersweet
pain, joy, love and disillusionment, memories, musical and theatrical
territories this show encompasses. They enhance the creative liberty and
diverse influences of each one, offering new musical and dramatic visions
of songs that have been important throughout Spain’s recent musical
history.
A truly heartfelt musical tribute to the wonderful composers and song-writers
who’ve left their indelible mark in our hearts.
