The evening of Tuesday, October 28th, in Madrid's Gaztemanu Restaurant, the jury whose job it is to select the annual winner of the flamenco prize 'Calle de Alcalá' awarded by the Festival Flamenco Caja Madrid to a flamenco artist whose professional career was primarily carried out in Madrid, after due deliberation unanimously voted to honor guitarist Francisco López-Cepero García (Jerez de la Frontera, 1942), known professionally as PACO CEPERO.

The prize, which is purely honorary, consists of a flamenco sculpture by
the well-known paintor and sculptor from El Salvador, Mauricio Jiménez
Larios, is to be awarded at the Teatro Albéniz during the twelfth
edition of the Festival Flamenco Caja Madrid scheduled to take place between
February 12th and 17th, 2004.
As in previous years the jury was composed of José Manuel Caballero
Bonald, Félix Grande Lara, Ángel Álvarez Caballero
and José Mª Velázquez-Gaztelu, with Alejandro Reyes
Domene Rodríguez, artistic director of Cultyart which organizes
the festival and is a project of the Obra Social Caja Madrid, acting as
sectretary.

In previous years the Calle de Alcalá
prize was awarded to guitarists Juan Carmona Habichuela, Paco de Lucía
and Manolo Sanlúcar; singers Manuel Soto 'Sordera', Enrique Morente
and Carmen Linares; and dancers Antonio Gades, Eduardo Serrano «El
Güito» and Blanca del Rey among others.
