La Unión goes to Chicago, USA

The Department of Culture and the Internationl Festival del Cante de Las Minas have come to an agreement to collaborate with the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago to take part in the Festival Flamenco the Institute is going to celebrate in this city.

This is an important initiative that shows the support of the Dirección General de Cultura, and a valuable promotion for Murcia's folklore in the most important cultural center of the United States, because an event organized by the Instituto Cervantes is the best showcase possible to feature flamenco in general and mining cante in particular.

David Pérez Almagro, winner of the Desplante (highest dance prize) of the Festival in 2004, will bring his group for the following shows:

  • Tuesday, January 30th at St. Ignatius Collage de Chicago.
  • Wednesday, January 31st at the Old Town School of Fol. Music.
  • Thursday, February 1st at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Without a doubt this is an important move by the Dirección General de Cultura and the Festival so that the region of Murcia may once again display its pivotal role on the cultural scene.
