La Tana, 28, is a singer from Seville.
Her voice was one of the «cositas buenas», [good little things]
from Paco de Lucía’s last record. Before that, she broke
her voice in traveling around the world with the companies of Joaquín
Cortés, Farruquito and Paco himself. And it was the man from Algeciras
who directed the recording of La Tana’s record, the first he has
produced since «Potro de rabia y miel» in 1992 with Camarón.
The album «Tú ven a mí» came out March 10th
and includes the artistic collaboration of musicians such as Diego de
Morao, Alain, Pérez, Carles Benavent, El Piraña, Antonio
Serrano and Caramelo de Cuba.
Tracks included on the record:
TÚ VEN A MÍ
1.- Tú, ven a mi (Rumba)
real audio
2.- Por olvidar (bulería)
3.- Asomada a mi balcón (tangos)
4.- Tus consejos (Siguiriya)
5.- La causa de todos mis males (rumba)
6.- Enamórame (bulería)
7.- Cuando paso por tu puerta (soleá)
8. La bombonera (tangos)

TEMPERAMENTO José Manuel Gamboa
…and I was going to start off by saying she was born in Seville…
But no, it’s not the time for a biography. La Tana, although she’s
been around for a while, today starts writing a new page in her professional
history. We heard her not long ago in East Seville, far from Sanlúcar,
where the gypsies from the ‘hood hang out. Her pedigree is impeccable,
but it’s her singing I want to comment on. La Tana sings with the
urgency of someone full of life, with her gut and her soul, a true flamenco
temperament.
About two years ago Paco de Lucía heard the girl and fell in love
with her singing. That enthusiasm exploded in intentions which have finally
borne fruit. Then there’s Diego de Morao, «The Talent»
of young flamenco guitar, who Paco chose for the occasion. He perfumes
everything with his Jerez sound. Diego met Paco after he received his
Príncipe de Asturias prize. You can now hear the young 24-karat
musician on the first bulería written by Farruquito and the singer’s
father, with the typical Jerez backup of Bo.
The repertoire is festive, and full of wonderful material: melodies,
harmonies, rhythm and counter-rhythm. The whole «Limón»
factory at work. Then we remember that night at the Mantoncillo in Triana
when La Tana met Kathy Chiavola, one of the best country/bluegrass voices
to come out of Nashville. They traded songs and Kathy was overcome with
the flamenco lady. Way to go, Tana!
