Under the direction of Juan José Téllez, September 22nd to 26th, 2014 at the FIBES convention center in Seville, within the activities of the XVIII Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla.
The figure of Paco de Lucía probably deserves and needs a musical and artistic event of gigantic proportions. But a reflection on his personality was required, his work and his career. This Bienal is titled «Fuente y Caudal», like the title of one of his most famous recordings, and is an overall motto of his life and legacy.
The Bienal named Juan José Téllez, director of the Centro Andaluz de las Letras, and author of two books on his Algeciras compatriot, to take on the responsibility of directing this exposition, and for a series of round-table talks that have taken the form of a symposium. More than 50 people, by way of diverse interventions and talks, will piece together different aspects of the creative life of Paco de Lucía. In a certain sense it will be like the pieces of a mosaic which, based on personal memories, will compose a portrait of the artist and the person.
Among all the guests, the most noteworthy will be José Sánchez Goméz, known professionally as Pepe de Lucía, one of the greatest singers in Spain, since becoming known when he was barely a child in the Jerez contest of 1962, accompanied precisely by his brother Paco. Pepe ceded numerous documents and objects for the exhibition that opens Friday, September 5th, in the Espacio Santa Clara. And he is the person who will close the symposium in an open dialogue with Rubén Blades and Javier Limón in a family sort of conversation.
