On November 6th this new book was presented at the headquarters of the Fundación Conservatorio Flamenco ‘CASA PATAS’. The author was accompanied by the president of the Fundación Enrique Guerrero, Ángel Álvarez Caballero and José Joaquín Cerezo, president of the Fundación Santa María, which participated in this project.
The concise manual (25 pages) published
in both Spanish and English and seeks to shorten the distance between
flamenco and the general audience, gives a rundown of the historic background
as well as the evolution and characteristics of flamenco singing, dancing
and guitar. Critic Álvarez Caballero described the author as a
serious academic who found the way to distill the most important aspects
of flamenco in this book.
At
the presentation you could see author Pepe Martínez’ dedication
to flamenco which he describes as «the most important music in the
world». He recommended his book to anyone just beginning to enjoy
flamenco: «the more you know about flamenco, the more you enjoy
it». As on so many other occasions, the conversation turned to the
current situation of flamenco and its future. At the end, one of the members
of the panel, Esperanza Montiel, broke out with tarantas, and taking advantage
of the opportunity, the book’s author offered his malagueñas
del Mellizo.
