A LOVELY FESTIVAL
The mayor of Nimes, France, Jean-Paul Fournier, began the official presentation of the city’s annual flamenco event saying it is a “lovely festival”. At this stage of the game, with 22 editions, and all the top artists who have passed through its stages, few flamenco fans would argue with that description. For the twenty-third edition, once again the organization has managed to put together a varied and interesting program.
Nimes theater-goers with have their well-known love of flamenco nourished by the singing of Carmen Linares, José Méndez and Rocío Márquez among others, and the dance offering includes an impressive assortment of first-rate stars such as Eva Yerbabuena, Olga Pericet, Javier Barón, Marco Flores and Leonor Leal.
One of the most interesting shows of the last Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla, “Boboterías”, will be seen at this edition of the Nimes festival, in addition to Antonio Moya’s “Al Compás de su Gente” with interpreters from Utrera, and Tomasito and Diego Carrasco, so admired in Nimes, will certainly be present as well.
The program is rounded out with performances by local artists, conferences, films and documentaries, in addition to exhibits and master classes to make thirteen exciting days of flamenco with something for everyone.
