FESTIVAL DE LA GUITARRA DE CÓRDOBA 2009.

From July 1st to 11th, the 29th edition of the Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba will be held, with numerous concerts and shows, many of them flamenco, parallel activities revolving around the guitar, exhibits, publications, presentations and an extensive teaching program.

This 29th edition will take place from July 1st to 11th.  A wide variety of presentations will be offered, always with the guitar as a point of reference: classic guitar, flamenco, jazz, blues, dance and cante… will all be at center stage to commemorate three important historical figure from the guitar world, Francisco Tárraga, Isaac Albéniz and Joaquín Rodrigo.  The first two died 100 years ago, and the third will be remembered with some study days on the tenth anniversary of his death.

2009 is turning out to be a special year for the guitar.  One of the most universal figures, Leo Brouwer will turn seventy.  His city’s festival, Córdoba, will celebrate the occasion of the birth of one of its favorite sons.

Flamenco dance is intimately related to the guitar, and of course to maestro Mario Maya.  Following his recent death, the Festival de Córdoba will pay tribute to him with a collection of his best choreographies.

This edition will be rounded out with a series of complementary activities: contests and tributes, exhibits, projections, publications…  Once again this year, Córdoba will become a city of encounters and a fusion of cultures with the guitar as backdrop.
