Paco Peña
– Requiem Flamenco. Canto a la Tierra
The
greatest guitar festival in the world couldn’t get off to a better
start than it did on Friday. First of all, the setting, the Mezquita,
second, one of the most prestigious guitarists in the world, Paco Peña,
and third, the premiere of an impressive work, Requiem Flamenco. Canto
a la Tierra, ingredients that can’t go wrong, and so it was.
This
flamenco réquiem interpreted by Paco Peña accompanied by
Paco Arriaga and Rafael Montilla on guitar, in addition to singers El
Chaparro, Miguel Ortega, María del Mar Fernández and Rafael
de Utrera and Nacho López and Juan Fra on percussion, contains
elements that make it new and unique in that it combines the purest sort
of flamenco with classical voices represented by the Sant Jordi Choral
group under the direction of Louis Vila, and the Córdoba Children’s
Chorus of the Conservatorio Profesional de Música, directed by
Javier Saénz-López. For the hour and a half duration of
the concert, the audience that filled the Mezquita enjoyed this one-of-a-kind
presentation. The bar has been set very high for this 25th edition of
the Festival de Córdoba.
