If
the provinces of Cádiz and Sevilla are known for flamenco singing,
and Granada is the place for dance, Córdoba is known for producing
an abundance of fine guitarists, from Paco de Lucena in the 19th century,
right up to Vicente Amigo, and many more along the way. So it’s
only fitting that Córdoba is where each year one of the most important
music festivals in the world is celebrated, “Córdoba, the
City of Guitar”, which brings together great maestros of this instrument,
the most universal Spanish instrument, in all its ramifications, including
flamenco.
With a varied program chock full of diverse activities and highly-specialized
individuals, three top-flight teachers, Manolo Sanlúcar, José
Antonio Rodríguez, Manolo Franco and Paco Serrano will offer their
master classes of FLAMENCO GUITAR.
Other complementary courses which each year attract a large number of
foreigners are those offered by Inmaculada Aguilar in flamenco dance,
as well as the mixed course of Dance and Dance Accompaniment, and Guitar
and Voice.
This edition of the festival includes a dissertation on “Contemporary
Andalusian Music” and the “History of the Guitar” among
other topic, as well as the creating of “Guitarists’ Encounter”
to exchange impressions and experiences. There is also a photography exhibit
with the guitar being the focal point.
Simultaneously the Third International Guitar Contest “Festival
de Córdoba, and the Fourth Contest of Flamenco Guitar Accompaniment
for Young Guitarists will also be celebrated.
