The Cante de las Minas Foundation, and the Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM) this Tuesday formulated an agreement by which the Cátedra Internacional de Flamencología has been created and will be developed jointly by both institutions.
Heading the institution as director, is the great Estrella Morente, without a doubt one of the unquestionable flamenco references of our time, thanks to her extraordinary artistic merit. Estrella has always been closely related to the Festival del Cante de las Minas, just as her father Enrique was, their visits to La Unión being frequent in recent years.
a Cátedra Internacional de Flamencología has already programed a full program of shows to be presented in the coming months, in addition to the following initiatives:
- School of Flamenco: with formative courses in cante, dance, guitar and percussion.
- University Conventions: aimed at investigation and teaching of everything related to flamenco culture, with specialized attention to flamenco and Spanish dance.
- Gastronomy: to study the existing link between gastronomy and flamenco.
The Cátedra will stage its activities in La Unión as well as in Murcia with the objective of receiving the greatest number of individuals.
The first series has already been announced, and registration for courses in cante, dance, guitar and percussion at the Escuela de Arte Flamenco is open as of November 20th and through December 20th. Classes commence in January after the holidays.
Guitarist Carlos Piñana continues to coordinate the school’s activities as he has been doing since its founding in 2010.
