El Niño. Andando por los Campos Marcheneros. Rocío Márquez – record

Rocío Márquez

Rocío Márquez

Rocío Márquez is a young flamenco singer and composer with much performing experience in flamenco associations and festivals.  Winner of the prestigious Lámpara Minera in 2008, Rocío is, without a doubt, the leading flamenco voice of a new generation.

Master flamenco singer and investigator with a wide range of forms, Márquez combines prodigious technique with a unique capacity to stir emotions.  She takes on classic forms, «ida y vuelta» and mining songs with profound respect, from a stance of knowledge, and of someone who has learned to understand based on study and repeated listening.

«El Niño» is a tribute to the unequaled Pepe Marchena, and although this is previously defended ground, this time we're seeing an exceptional recording in which music and concepts seamlessly complement one another.  Rocío pays tribute to classic Marchena, a singer with encyclopedic knowledge of the forms, as well as to Marchena the creator, the tireless innovator of new styles,  and inspired investigator of flamenco singing.

The classic portion was produced by Faustino Núñez with Pepe Habichuela, Manolo Francco, Manolo Herrera and Raúl Rodríguez on guitar.  The new creations include the work of Raúl Fernández Miró (Refree) as producer and multi-instrumentalist, and guest artists Niño de Elche singing, Oriol Roca on drums and Miguel Ángel Cortés on guitar.
