Five years ago the Organization of the Festival de Cante de la Minas de La Unión founded a series of awards to give recognition to those people who, from different perspectives, deal with aspects of the art of flamenco.

The
prizes, which are honorary and not remunerated, consist of a trophy called
«Minera, Cartagenera y Taranta» by Dora Catarineu which is
a reproduction of the original situated in La Unión near the Cathedral
of Cante.
The winners for this fifth edition are as follows:
Journalism:For Estela Zatania for work
published on the Internet webpage www.deflamenco.com, and
for the book: «Monsters, 28 interviews with famous flamenco artists»
by Antonio Arco, illustrated with photographs by Paco Sánchez.
Visual arts: For Pedro Serna for his pictoric work devoted
to flamenco.
Discographic production: For the five-volume anthology
devoted to the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas by Spanish
Radio & Television (RTVE).
Investigation: For Lola Fernández Marín’s
book
«Teoría Musical del Flamenco», and Luis F. Leal
Pinar’s book «Guitarreros Andaluces».
Instructional material: For the book «Aprendemos
a leer con arte», a literacy aid for adults created by a multi-disciplinary
team at the Albolete (Granada) provincial penitentiary, and the record
with book
«Comprende el flamenco» by Faustino Núñez.
The awards are to be presented Saturday August 7th at 8:20 pm in the
Salón de Usos Múltiples of Cajamurcia, the cultural hall
of the Museo Minero de La Unión.
