Alter the festivals of Nimes, France and the Dutch Bienal, from February 8th to 19th, Londiners will be the next ones to enjoy twelve days of the best flamenco.
The Sadler’s Wells Flamenco Festival will offer fans a diverse assortment of the best artists who currently populate the landscape of this genre which in November was officially designated a World Cultural Heritage. The voices of Estrella Morente and Miguel Poveda will occupy the first and third days of the program respectively. Sadler’s Wells being “the house of dance” as the organization calls it, the array of baile shows is fabulous. If young Rocío Molina marks the halfway point with her work on Tuesday the 15th, Eva Yerbabuena will put the icing on the cake the last three days with her show “Cuando Yo Era”, which is being touted as “one of the most sophisticated and memorable productions of her career”. Also in dance, English fans will have the opportunity to see Aída Gómez as “Carmen”, and young Jerez dancer Mercedes Ruiz with her new work “Baile de Palabra”. In a festival of this magnitude, there had to be an exceptional guitarist: Tomatito will present his latest work “Luz de Guía” on the 16th of February. PROGRAM Tuesday 08 February 2011
