Although the festival hasn't been presented yet, the Madrid Community issued a communication giving the venues and artists scheduled to participate in this year's editon to be held from June 4th to July 3rd.
A total of 24 venues (22 in the city of Madrid. another in San Lorenzo of El Escorial, and another in La Cabrera) will receive the program of 26 shows, in addition to film screenings, a dance event, a contest for young singers, a flamenco course and a special program at flamenco tablaos. The 9th edition begins with the voice of María Toledo, directed by Mateo Feijóo in a world premiere at the Teatro de la Abadía.
Following this will be the performances of La Tremendita with Mohammad Motamedi, Rocío Márquez with the dancing of Eduardo Guerrero, most recent first prize winner in dance at La Unión, who will also perform at the Real Coliseo de Carlos III at San Lorenzo of El Escorial. The Teatros del Canal will host the guitar-playing of Tomatito, the singing of Carmen Linares along with the jazz of the Trío Benavent, Di Geraldo, Pardo, the dancing of La Moneta and the voice of José Mercé. Silvia Marín and the Fundación Antonio Gades will give a flamenco course for teachers.
The Teatro Español is the setting for the performances of Arcángel and the Voces Búlgaras, the singing of Diego Carrasco, José Enrique Morente, Montse Cortés with Yasmin Levy, and a tribute to the most orthodox flamenco voices with José Menese, Rancapino and Fernando de la Morena. Dance will be represented by El Mistela, José Maya and a special gala dance show that includes Jesús Carmona, Karime Amaya and Paloma Fantova. A tribute to Paco de Lucía is scheduled in its world premiere by three guitar maestros: Gerardo Núñez, Diego del Morao and Dani de Morón.
The Centro Cultural Paco Rabal will host singer Rocío Bazán and dancer Úrsula López, and singer Ana Ramírez ‘La Yiya’ will present her new show at the Centro Cultural Pilar Miró along with José Maldonado, with his winning choreography from last year’s Suma Flamenca. New York dancer Leilah Broukhim will present a new choreography at the Casa Sefarad Israel. The Teatro Guindalera will be transformed to accommodate the tavern singing of Loreto de Diego, and the young prize-winning singer and guitarist Ricardo Fernández will perform at the Centro Cardenal Gonzaga de La Cabrera.
For this edition, another four venues associated with La Noche en Vivo, in addition to tablaos, will present flamenco evenings with daring new proposals: Barco, Clamores, Fulanita de Tal and Off of La Latina. Also for the first time, the festival will offer the chance to new choreogrphers and dancers with the inclusion of the prestigious Choreographic Competition for Spanish and Flamenco Dance celebraing its 23rd edition.
The finals and the closing show will take place at the Teatro Fernando de Rojas of the Círculo Bellas Artes. And for the second consecutive year, Suma Flamenco will offer a cante contest for young singers organized by cuandollegaelduende.com.
