The organization of the 40th Caracolá de Lebrija has announced that maestro Antonio Núñez «Chocolate» will not be able to participate in the upcoming event. The singer is hospitalized in Seville with serious health problems.
If
last week José Menese was absent from the Festival in La Puebla,
for the first time in thirty-six years, also for health reasons, on July
16th Lebrija will notice the large vacuum left by Chocolate, born in Jerez,
raised in Seville. The legendary singer is to be substituted by veteran
Jerez singer Fernando de la Morena, and all the artists scheduled to perform
on Saturday have expressed their concern about Chocolate’s absence.
Lebrija will be represented by three stars from town: Juan Peña
‘Lebrijano’, Miguel el Funi and Curro Malena. The dance part
of the show will be handled by Manuela Carrasco, one of the most admired
female flamenco dancers today.
A tribute to the sisters from Utrera, Fernanda and Bernarda, has been
announced and they are to receive the ‘Caracol de Oro’.
