Once again the Madrid winter is hosting one of the most established flamenco programs of the national scene. For two weeks Madrid will become the capital of flamenco, the first week with interesting activities at the Casa Encendida located on the Ronda de Valencia which work by the most prestigious flamenco investigators and writers will offer a variety of activities. Artists such as young Paticia Guerrero, winner of the last La Unión contest, as well as singers Julián Estrada, Manuel Fernández “El Titi” and Córdoba guitarist José Antonio Rodríguez will also be featured.
The second week included an intense program at the Teatro Albénez. Artists such as Merche Esmeralda, who is to receive the Calle Alcalá award this year, will perform in a show conceived by Mario Maya that recently premiered in Asia, along with Belén Maya and Rocío Molina. Cante will be represented by artists such as Calixto Sánchez or El Cabrero, along with the beautiful voice of Mayte Martín, in addition to “Zambra 5.1” with Arcángel. But the most noteworthy event is the return of Juan Moneo “El Torta” who recently released his new CD-DVD “Momentos” and who will fill the Albéniz theater with the help of his friend Capullo de Jerez, and veteran singer Juan el Lebrijano. The festival will be inaugurated by Granada singer Enrique Morente. A well-rounded and attractive program that this year will not have to compete with parallel flamenco festivals as occurred last year.
