Etnosur is a three-day festival with complementary activities whose aim is to get to know a diversity of artistic manifestations from every corner of the globe. This concert which took place in Spain managed to bring together these great artists and their respective groups on the same stage.
In actual fact, I have to confess I started viewing at the end, the “making of”, and I think one of the things that most contributed to my enjoyment was the feeling of intimacy with these legendary musicians. The interviews regarding flamenco, and of course fusion, the glimpses of the rehearsals, even some of the artists’ concerns.
Jorge Pardo, Tino Di Geraldo and Carles Benavent are the first to come out. To finish off their performance they invite pianist Dorantes to join them, and they play one piece together. The trio then leaves the stage and Dorantes’ musicians come on. Diego Carrasco’s staging is with guitarist Diego del Morao and the above-mentioned musicians who play the rest of the numbers.
Carrasco then stays on with his musicians, does his concert ending with all the “maestros” on stage and the whole thing ends up in what could be called a sensory explosion, the musicians’ collective delight which soon becomes our own.
A magnificent concert and a first-class production, from the extraordinary beginning by maestro Jorge Pardo, to the surprising appearance of Diego Carrasco. When something is this outstanding, I think there’s little that can be added.
It looks like the DVD format is soon going to be the order of the day. And the regular use of this system considerably reduces production costs. In any case, here we have a good example of how recorded music should be in the immediate future.
