2013 VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL FLAMENCO FESTIVAL – OCTOBER 30 – NOVEMBER 10, 2013
Flamenco Rosario’s Artistic Director, Rosario Ancer, and Musical Director, Victor Kolstee, take great pride in announcing that Madrid, Spain’s renowned award-winning performer Olga Pericet along with national and local artists will grace Vancouver for the 24th year of the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival.
The festival presents flamenco artists performing in a range of styles – from traditional to contemporary, and soloists to ensemble works. As a gathering place for the ever-growing local and national flamenco community, the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival takes the audience from flamenco’s origins as a blend of cultures through to today’s continual evolution of music, song, and dance.
Hailing from Spain, it is with great pleasure that this year’s festival welcomes one of the most influential artists in contemporary Spanish dance, Olga Pericet, performing at the Vancouver Playhouse for a one-night presentation of her most recent work De Una Pieza. Translating traditional flamenco into radically modern dance iterations, Ms. Pericet and her cast will deliver a genuinely new performance flowing from previous creations re-encountered in the present moment. This fluid, dynamic and movemental approach to Flamenco derives from a conceptual play on the Chinese puzzle called Tangram.
