On February 20, 2025, Barcelona’s Tablao Flamenco Cordobés will celebrate the opening of its 55th anniversary with a luxurious event that will bring together two of the most prominent flamenco dancers today: Jesús Carmona and Farruquito. This event, which promises to be a tribute to both the tradition and innovation of flamenco, will feature a special program including a conference, a tribute to the legendary Manuela Carrasco, and performances by top-tier artists.
Founded in 1970 in the heart of Las Ramblas, Tablao Cordobés has become an international reference for authentic flamenco. For more than five decades, it has been a space where the greatest legends of the genre have performed, such as Camarón de la Isla, Farruco, and Manuela Carrasco herself, who will be honored during the event with an emotional tribute.
Luis Adame, president of the Tablao Cordobés Foundation, and María Rosa Pérez, director of the tablao, will present the 55th-anniversary program, which will include a series of performances and activities throughout the year. During the event, flamenco scholar Manuel Martín Martín will give a lecture on the role of tablaos in the preservation and evolution of flamenco. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion featuring Luis Adame, Jesús Carmona, and other prominent guests, reflecting on the importance of these venues in spreading the art of flamenco.
After the discussion, a tribute to Manuela Carrasco, one of the most iconic figures in flamenco, will take place with the presentation of the Mezquita de Plata award, a recognition that Tablao Cordobés gives to those who have significantly contributed to flamenco culture.
The event will culminate with a series of special performances:
- Pedro Sierra, renowned guitarist, will perform a solo that promises to move the audience.
- Enrique “El Extremeño”, one of the leading flamenco singers today, will perform a solo of cante.
- Manuela Carrasco hija, heir to her mother’s artistic legacy, will dance a soleá to pay tribute to her family’s greatness.
The event will close with a fin de fiesta por bulerías, where the artists and the audience will come together to celebrate the richness and vitality of flamenco.
A Year of Celebration
This event marks the beginning of a year full of activities to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Tablao Cordobés. Throughout 2025, the tablao will host great flamenco figures such as Belén López, Manuel Liñán, and Karime Amaya, in a program that blends tradition with innovation.
Tablao Cordobés is not only an iconic space for flamenco but also a symbol of Spanish culture in Barcelona. With over half a century of history, it remains a place where flamenco is experienced in its most authentic form, keeping the essence of this universal art alive.
