Lorca and Cante Jondo Travel to Morocco with the Voice of Miguel Poveda
The 28th Edition of the Festival of World Sacred Music and Fès Forum, taking place from May 16 to 24, 2025, solidifies its role as a meeting point for diverse cultures. This year, flamenco will be represented by Miguel Poveda and the sisters Florencia Oz and Isidora Oz with their project “Antípodas”.
Miguel Poveda, one of flamenco’s greatest voices, will perform on May 23 at the stunning Bab Al Makina stage, presenting pieces inspired by Federico García Lorca’s Poema del Cante Jondo. Accompanied by renowned musicians—including guitarist Jesús Guerrero, percussionist Paquito González, the choirs and palmas of Londro and Los Makarines, and Catalan artist Carlos Grilo—the show is billed as “a tribute to the roots of cante, to words that burn, and to emotions that endure.” This concert promises an intimate and moving journey into the depths of the Andalusian soul.
The 2025 edition also pays homage to flamenco’s power and sensitivity through “Antípodas” by Florencia Oz and Isidora Oz (May 19, Jardin Jnan Sbil). These standout artists, sisters and representatives of a new generation, will present a stage duo blending contemporary dance, flamenco, the expressive sound of the cello, and visual poetry that explores the myth of the double.
Under the theme “Renaissances,” the festival invites a spiritual journey connecting Africa’s roots and Europe’s Renaissance, reviving historic heritage spaces in Fès to create unique stages that highlight art’s transformative power. In this context, the inclusion of flamenco reinforces the genre’s role as a bridge between cultures and a vehicle for rekindling memory and creative spirit.
From the majestic Bab Al Makina square to the evocative gardens and palaces, the convergence of cultures and artistic expressions will find a vibrant setting where the sacred and contemporary merge into a universal dialogue. The festival is held in collaboration with the Andalusian Flamenco Institute.
