The Royal Artillery Factory of Seville will be the setting for the “Amalgama” cycle, an initiative of the Seville Flamenco Biennale that will bring together artists from different generations to engage in dialogue about the art of flamenco. This innovative space for oral transmission and reflection will feature renowned flamenco figures, alongside emerging talents and specialized journalists. The cycle will take place in two phases between April 1 and November 20, 2025, with free entry until full capacity is reached.
“Amalgama” has been conceived as a forum for exchange in which flamenco will be approached from different perspectives. Singers, dancers, guitarists, filmmakers, photographers, writers, and journalists will share their experiences and knowledge in an open-dialogue format with the public. According to the director of the Biennale, Luis Ybarra, “It is interesting to inaugurate new spaces for oral transmission.” In each session, a veteran artist will join a young talent, guided by a journalist specialized in flamenco.
The program will feature two encounters per month, structured in two phases: the first from April to June, and the second from September to November 2025. Among the featured artists are names like Carmen Linares, Arcángel, Farruquito, Merche Esmeralda, and Rafael Riqueni, as well as renowned journalists such as José Yélamo, Marta Carrasco, and Manuel Martín Martín.
The cycle will conclude on November 20 with the performance “De voz, un cuerpo” by dancer Leonor Leal. This theatrical proposal arises from a study on memory and the transmission of knowledge in flamenco, exploring the stories of retired female dancers. Leonor Leal will present an intimate and reflective performance that functions as a “personal diary” on stage.
As part of its commitment to promoting flamenco, Loyola University will collaborate in the production of video podcasts for each session. Students from the Communication Degree program will be responsible for recording, editing, and compiling these materials, which will be available on the Biennale’s website and YouTube channel.
